Superclásico, the River is not there: "That's why we will not play at the Bernabeu"

The Superclásico increasingly in chaos. After the decision by the Conmebol (the South American Football Federation) to dispute the return of the Libertadores final at the Bernabeu in Madrid on December 9th - following the Boca bus assault -, the River's dry response came. The Millonarios are not there and they refuse to play the game away from the Monumental.

THE PRESS RELEASE - "River Plate confirms its refusal to change premises". Thus begins the official note of the Argentine company that explains, point by point, the reasons for the refusal. Starting from the security issue: "The responsibility for the security shortcoming on Saturday 24, which occurred outside the perimeter ring set up for the event - it is read - was taken openly by the high authorities of the state. This is tantamount to saying that the facts are in no way attributable to the responsibility of society ". Moving on from the fans' question: "More than 66,000 people attending the stadium waited patiently for about eight hours on Saturday and returned to the stadium for the second time on Sunday. Those spectators are now denied - in an unjustified way - the opportunity to attend the show, by virtue of the obvious difference in costs and the distance proper to the chosen place ". Finally, reasons of pride and prestige: "It is incomprehensible that the most important Argentine football classic can not normally take place in the same country that hosts a G20. Argentine football as a whole and the Argentinean Football Association (AFA) can not and should not allow a group of violents to hinder the dispute over the Superclásico in our country ".

INFANTINO - Meanwhile, the president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, expressed himself in no uncertain terms on the incidents that caused the postponement of the Monumental race, calling "idiots" those who "ruined the party". "I was there last Saturday", - said Infantino at a press conference in the margins of the G20 summit in Buenos Aires - "It was a sad moment for everyone, it was a football match, not a war, not even a battle". He added: "We have to work to find out who the culprits are, they must be identified and thrown out of football. I hope this does not happen any more, this story must mark the end of a chapter and the beginning of a new one ".
