Italy striker Mario Balotelli is set to complete his transfer from Nice to rivals Marseille in the coming days.
The former Manchester City star, joined by a lawyer and not agent Mino Raiola, held further talks with the Ligue 1 giants this weekend.
Balotelli has already angered Nice by failing to attend pre-season training with his current club, despite being out of contract.
Now, though, RMC in France say he is expected to conclude a switch which could make him Marseille’s highest paid player ever, with wages worth around £175,000 a week.
Nice believe they are owed around £8.8million for Balotelli, despite his contract expiring, due to a gentleman’s agreement, and are likely to chase him for the cash.
A source told Nice-Matin: “I do not see how Mario can sign a new contract when he has not been bought out of his current one here.”
The Liverpool flop has rebuilt his career in the south of France, scoring a career-best 22 goals in 30 matches last season, and hitting 15 in his first campaign with Nice.
